Biovertis' Executive Management

Erich Felber, MD, MBA: Chief Executive Officer

Erich Felber joined Vienna-based Biovertis AG as its Chief Executive Officer in September 2004. Previously, he was CEO of Munich-based Micromet AG, which he ran from its inception until March 2004. Erich Felber received an MD from Munich University and was group leader of the laboratory for clinical immunology at the University's Institute for Immunology. Subsequently, he moved to Schering-Plough as a project leader in clinical research, then gained an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France) and was finally manager with Andersen Consulting's strategic services group before co-founding Micromet in 1993.

Thomas Kapsner, MD: Chief Operating Officer

Thomas Kapsner joined Biovertis in May 2006. Previously, he served as managing director of Kapsner&Schmid GmbH, a European corporate finance counsel focusing on the healthcare and life sciences industry. He has held several management and executive positions in client companies ranging from start-up to turn-around situations. Since November 2002, he has been managing the European operations for Argos Therapeutics Inc. Thomas Kapsner was investment manager with GE Capital before founding Kapsner&Schmid in 1999. At GE, he concentrated on M&A of healthcare companies. Prior to joining GE, he worked as consultant with McKinsey & Company focusing on healthcare and pharma clients. Before joining McKinsey, he was co-founder and managing director of the Bavarian Public Health Research Center in Munich. Thomas Kapsner received his MD at the University of Munich and was research fellow at the University’s Department of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology.

Gertraud Unterrainer, PhD: VP Finance

Gertraud Unterrainer joined Biovertis in July 2004. Previously, she was Deputy Head of Life Science Austria at Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH, an Austrian seed investment program focusing on life science companies. Her responsibilities included selection of and investment in life science portfolio companies and overall program development including budgeting, finances & personnel. She started her career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company where she served the pharma/healthcare industry as well as basic material industries. Her projects included strategy and controlling/turnaround management. Initially, she received a doctoral degree in Biochemistry at the University of Vienna.

Thomas Gramatté, MD: VP Medical Affairs and Clinical Development

Thomas Gramatté joined the Company in October 2004. He studied medicine at Humboldt-University, Berlin, and received a MD from Dresden University in 1982. For more than 15 years he worked as Specialist in Pharmacology and Toxicology and in Clinical Pharmacology at Dresden Medical School where he obtained his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) in 1996. Subsequently, he moved to Apogepha Arzneimittel GmbH Dresden (1997 - 2004) as Director Medical Research. In this position he was responsible for the complete preclinical and clinical development of Detrunorm® and Detrunorm Once Daily® which were successfully approved by a Mutual Recognition Procedure with UK as the Reference State. In 1996, he received the most prestigious German award for clinical pharmacology, the Paul-Martini-Preis. Thomas Gramatté is Adjunct Professor for Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Dresden and a past president of the Association for Applied Human Pharmacology (AGAH e.V.).
